Lemon Berry Smoothie

I honestly don’t think this blog would be complete without a bunch of smoothie recipes because I drink them so often.  I get asked all the time if I continue to drink smoothies throughout the winter months and the answer is, yes! I actually think it’s more important to drink smoothies during the winter months because our immune systems tend to get knocked down easier when it’s cold outside.  I can happily say that I haven’t gotten a cold this winter (knock on wood) and that is almost unheard for me!! But I do really think that drinking a smoothie every day, as well as my other lifestyle choices, has immensely helped. If you want me to write a post on how I’ve stayed healthy this winter (even through the holidays) let me know! I would love to write about it if it could mean helping someone else!

Since I’m drinking a smoothie pretty much every day, I like to mix it up and get creative with the combinations! I whipped up this smoothie a couple of weeks ago and I just couldn’t wait to share it with you guys!! I love anything with lemon in it, so this smoothie was definitely a win for me.  I hope you end up enjoying it as well. Let’s get to it!

Here are some of the ingredients.  Honestly, if you don’t have all of the ingredients, don’t worry! If you have the milk, berries, banana, lemon, and spinach, it would still be really tasty! I do have to say though, that if you add fiber, protein and healthy fat to your smoothie, it does help with staying satiated longer. This is why I like to add all the extra stuff!

Here is some homemade almond milk that I made a couple of days ago! I don’t always use homemade milk in my smoothies but when I have it on hand, I definitely do. It’s so delicious and really easy to make.  I’ll teach you guys how to make it soon!

Here is the finished smoothie.  It tastes like berry lemonade to me, which makes me so happy! I will definitely be drinking this smoothie year-around.  🙂

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 Cup of Almond Milk (or milk of choice)
  • 1 Lemon, juiced
  • A scoop of vanilla protein powder (optional)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 Small knob of fresh ginger (peeled)
  • 1 TB ground or whole flax seeds
  • 2 Handfuls of spinach (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 Cup of mixed berries (frozen)
  • 1/2 Banana (frozen)
  • 2 Ice cubes (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

Put all the ingredients into a blender (in the order that is listed) blend on high, until smooth. Top with chia seeds and enjoy!

That’s all for today! I’m planning on doing a post about photography next week since I’ve been doing so many food posts lately. haha! I just can’t help it, cooking really is a passion of mine. Anyway, let me know what posts or recipes you would like to see in the coming weeks. I hope you have a great weekend, thanks for stopping by! 🙂
